The dress coat on Leelee Sobieski in Dior, outside Dior s/s 2013. After seeing Prada, Rochas, Jil Sander all walking coats (it is f/w of course) the twist is outerwear has become the new innerwear. The très 50s cinched waist and circle skirt are back, thank God for me. Just last week at a shoot, the model emerged from the dressing room with a coat worn as a dress and she laughed “stylists are making me think I can wear a coat with nothing underneath in real life!”
Alas, she’s right! The coat has turned into the sexiest of dresses. The deeply intrenched man’s fantasy of a woman showing up at the doorstep wearing a jacket with nothing underneath (variations on underneath can be applied here) has been transformed. Except she’ll be showing up to your mother’s tea party or your work’s twelve-course holiday meal rather than sexual tryst. Dommage.
